This is the first guitar I ever built - in 1994 while I was still in the Air Force. It was my attempt to build a blues axe. I based the shape on a Gibson 335, with Lucille as the ultimate goal. The body is made of 4 pieces of book matched mesquite. I carved the top with scrapers and recessed the knobs. The neck is a fat one and is bolted on to the body. It's made of birds-eye maple, lacquered with clear tinted amber honey. The fretboard is ebony and is inlayed and bound with turquoise. The frets are silver nickel jumbos,- very fat and tall. The neck and peghead are made with a scarf cut which puts the angle of the peghead at 17 degrees. I overlayed ebony and rosewood on the peghead and made it a modified Gibson shape. The peghead is inlayed with a turquoise and sea urchin shell inlay of a Dancing Gecko. Pickups are Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers. The hardware, wiring and switches are all genuine Gibson, including the variotone switch, the TP-6 tailpiece and standard Gibson bridge.
