Davidian Seventh Day Adventist Cloth Manuscript

V.T. Houteff copyrighted these 18 religious manuscripts, printed on cloth,
some hand colored, some black and white, that are dated from 1929 to 1944.
These scrolls hang from a wooden roll, which in turn is hung on a wall.

V.T. Houteff referred to it in his religious teachings.

Since these manuscripts have been rolled up, they do not easily hang flat,
and the overall condition is fair to good, with no damage to the manuscripts themselves.
They are 21 inches high and 28 inches wide.

Hello Bob,

I am writing in reference to the SDA manuscript you have on eBay.
Could I get some background information on it? Previous owners,
any paperwork you may have, etc.
I bid many times (up to $41) but never went over the reserved price.
Before proceeding I need to ask the reserve price and all the info
you have please. :)

Thank you,

~S. Shappart~

This was made by or for V.T. Houteff in 1929 onward. He founded the Davidian Seventh Day Adventists in 1930 in California and moved his church to a several hundred acre spot southwest of Waco, Texas in the 1930s. He called it Mt. Carmel Ranch and preached there. He died in 1955, survived by his wife, Florence Houteff. Ben Roden claimed to be the rightful successor and competed with Florence. Mrs. Houteff sold her property in the late 1950s and bought land near Elk, Texas. Ben Roden bought remaining acres and sold for $1 to Branch Davidian Seventh Adventists. Vernon Howell, alias David Koresh eventually became leader of Branch Davidians. We will send the complete story to the winning bidder. Our reserve is $225.00.

Their history is not unknown to me, however what I
was asking about was how you came to be in possession of it,
what the paper trail is like, owners after Houteff, things to track it's
authenticity.
If I could get more information about the item, other than
the religious history that would help out tremendously!
Thanks again.

My consignor bought it in an antique shop in Maine. He gave me a printout from the internet
called "The Sinful Messiah" http://yourmail.sfasu.edu/psy503/b...ofessional/Waco/sinful-messiah.htm
You will get 17 pages. The story begins on page 3 to 5. Bob Knowles

:::My consignor bought it in an antique shop in Maine.

Could you perhaps ask him the name of the shop so I could inquire more about it?
The year he purchased it perhaps? If he has documentation that goes with
it, etc. All of these things would help identify it's authenticity.

Sorry, the Sinful Messiah link that you sent didnt work.

Here is an informative link to Victor's early days

And here is my website for more recent info.

The Sinful Messiah series was a pack of lies and
hearsay, to mention a few of it's 'good' qualities.
Hardly the publication to form a truthful base for
investigating events that transpired. Feel free to
visit the above links to look a little deeper. :)

I know he has no other documentation. As to authenticity, each page is signed, and in some cases dated- copyrighted V. T. Houteff. we think they are authentic, they have the look and the age of manuscripts that could well be 60 or more years old. We would suggest that you don't bid, if you doubt the authenticity of the manuscripts.

Thank you for your advice, however apparently you misunderstand
me. I am not doubting your credibility. I'm not sure how you arose
to such a thought, but let me explain.
Anytime a person is about to purchase something for over $200
and simply asks if you have documentation of authenticity, it should
not be construed as a personal attack. Lord knows if every antique
dealer did that, he'd have no customers left.

You're offering something for quite a lot of money, I would assume
you'd welcome ANY questions a potential buyer might have. You
offer very little information at your page on this item so you state that a
person should write you with any further questions. This led me to believe
I was to do exactly that.

Pardon my intrusion and sorry to have bothered you.
